Norway has two written standards - Bokmål and Nynorsk. This is because when the country became independent in 1905, citizens disagreed on how to create a distinctly Norwegian written language. Some wanted to adapt the existing Danish-based writing tradition, while others preferred to build a new standard from rural Norwegian dialects. Both are now official written languages. Norway actually recognises multiple other languages too, including the Sámi languages, Kven, and Norwegian Sign Language.
